Author Topic: Colors - Explaining them to blind people, seeing them differently, and more  (Read 7250 times)

How would you do it?

The dictionary defines red as "the colour of blood or fire", but how does a blind person know what that looks like?

You can take out the blind person factor if you want and just ask how to define a color without referring to the color of an object.

Red feels hot
Blue, Cold
Green, gloppy
Pink, soft

etc.

It is impossible. I've had many things I've wondered about sight:

Blind person dreams?
Deaf person dreams?

What if one person saw color completely different than the other, sort of like loving up the saturation/hue/lightness of a photograph. How would you know, to them blue is what they see and your blue is what you see. Their blue might be your red. Who knows?

Ahhhhhhhhhh

I hate that theory

Eyes are sensory objects of the human body, whereas dreams are substitutions created by your brain for stimulation as you sleep. Kinda like when you go into a sensory deprivation chamber. I'm not 100% on if you actually 'see' when you dream.

So that we are all on the same page...

What color do you see cookie monster?

But dreams are compiled of images, are they not?

I'd imagine so, but if there are no images to begin with, your brain gets bored and starts doodling. I am questioning whether they do see this or not, and if they dream the same as we do.

If your blind, take a flash light that looks red and put it into your eyes.

I think that's how it goes.

Grab a red object, and go "this is red, to you it would be a certain shade.".

...

They couldn't see the red, they're blind.

I was talking about the light.

I wonder what blind people think humans look like...

They probably have a somewhat accurate idea based on feeling their own body.
