Using combined data from the accounts of SupremeCommander, Jellycaek, and V, here's a quick summary of Elrune's history here.
He has made 2269 posts. 917 of them were in the Drama forums. For someone who "studied the community at length," he sure spent a lot of time in the drama sections. He literally made over 40% of his comments in the stufftiest subforum on the entire site, the one tiny part of the forum where people EXCLUSIVELY complain and bitch about each other all day, he spent almost half of his entire stay on the website up to his neck in stuff and then, just now, coincidentally when someone said something mean about his game, said "oh hey, something smells funny!"
He posted a grand total of 16 times (yes, 16 times) in the modification discussion, mapping discussion, coding help, and general help forums. You know, the parts of the website where people help each other out. He made over 50 times the number of posts in Drama.
His posts weren't about helping people or being nice. He was trolling people and drumming up drama. This isn't surprising, considering the original reason he joined this forum was to troll.
The big con that he pulled off wasn't hiding out for so long. It's that someone so hypocritical was able to convice so many people to believe the total bullstuff spewing out of him in the end with just a few sugar coated words he probably pulled off SAT vocabulary flashcards and by saying "people are mean on the Internet."
Believing there is something wrong with the forums is one thing, being convinced by this guy is another thing altogether. It's like Pol Pot coming out and saying "oh, by the way, did you know killing people is wrong?"
I know Elrune probably can't understand this post so I've provided a translation below for him:
