I love it, it's so smoother and easier on the eyes, also, the new message sound is lower and easier on the ears, IMO

That's because it's in beta stage.

They put things in beta stage so you, and the rest of the community can find bugs and report them.

Basic colours is better on your eyes, more shapes and shading etc requires more thought power and visual identification, Its just eye Candy.
