You better be calling popular bands of the past stuffty, not current popular bands good. Owl City is so damn repetitve that you can cue up four of his songs in random spots on top of eachother and you can't pick out the individual songs inside that because the beats and melodies are so similar.
Also there's so much better music out there. Owl City barely deserves to be called music.
I'm not saying popular bands of the past were bad, and I'm not saying popular bands of today are good. I'm just comparing Metallica and Owl City in the sense they're both intensely repetitive.
Both bands have a song or two that will stand out, though. Fade to Black is an amazing song, and Fireflies is okay. Neither are my favourites, but to me, those are the songs from each of those bands that have that "spark" to them to make them great.
I don't ever really find music bad. There are some bands and some types of music that I find unbearably annoying, but I don't want to say they're bad. Everyone has their own tastes.
If we were close-minded we wouldn't know who these people were, would we? Am I close-minded because I prefer grunge and metal to hip-hop and nu disco? Am I close-minded because I'd rather listen to music not about love/drugs/money/image once in a while?
Additionally, of course people are going to shun music they don't like. If you find a song you don't like you're not going to obsess over it, now are you?
I'm not calling you ignorant.
People who are unwilling to accept that music has genres, and different people like different genres, are who I'm referring to.
Also, not all rap/hip hop/R&B songs are about love, drugs or money.
