But making it tiny is a hassle.

When you quote tiny text you will see what it says. The only reason you can't quote stuff is when the topic is locked or when its too old, then you have to copy it. Try quoting my post and on the post reply where the tiny text would be it will just look like.

I agree, I used to do tiny text, but then I realized it's a pain to have to zoom 400% just to see at 1pt, because I'm too lazy to quote them.
