Author Topic: Help with buying a computer!  (Read 2042 times)

Don't worry I am working on the computer now, I got 8 gigs of corsair ram for a pretty good price, they are 800 mhz but in gaming the frequency means nothing, they are 5-5-5-18 timing which is SUPER nice for gaming.

Okay this is what I got, gonna want some feedback before I buy it.
Windows 7
CPU and Mobo
GPU
PSU
case
ram
HD
Drive

Total cost with shipping for me: $912

First off that mobo needs DDR3 ram, not DDR2.
Second, Newegg might be cheaper, you'll have to look into it.
Other than that I don't see anything wrong with it, though I wouldn't trust my opinion right now seeing as how I'm half asleep.

Okay looked into it and some guy I game with told me i5 only uses DDR2 ram and he was wrong so I will look into new ram.

Lol I tried buying all the same stuff on newegg and it came out to the exact same price, but with tax it would be like 90 bucks more.

I always go to these topics. You should try to use more than Newegg though. Zipzoomfly is incredible. Incredibly low prices and free shipping on almost everything.

Everything looks good, cept maybe I would recommend getting a different HDD. I've had bad luck with Western Digital, but that's just my experience with them.

You found those? That is exactly what I posted. I wouldn't get 2 gigs of ram, get the 4 gigs I posted for like 30 bucks more, you really want at least 4 gigs, I wanted 8 but can't afford it quite yet. Also your HD is ram. And with an i5 and a 5770 half-life 2 is not going to be any issue even at maximum settings.

Post is edited, links are fixed. Does it look good now?

I don't like the HD, I don't see why it is so expensive mine is cheaper and more storage and even faster.

Fixed. Gonna calculate the price nao if you think it's good.

That tax can't be right. Really, I mean a $90 is outrageous.
