Author Topic: ►►►How To Get A Profile Picture  (Read 3911 times)

This has been asked many times in the past few weeks, so I'm making a help thread on how to do it.

Choosing An Image

Avatars are small pictures people upload that appear under their name. It's a way of telling the world what you like, what you look like, or what you're in to.
First off, you will need an avatar. There are many ways to get an avatar you like. Here are a few:

  • If you know what you're looking for, a simple google search on what you want will most likely bring up one you like.
  • If you're just browsing, there are a number of dedicated websites around that can supply you with avatars.

A few good sites to look for avatars:

Gdpit
Avatarsvault
koinup

Transparent Backgrounds

When an avatar has a transparent background, the background of the image will be whatever color the forum is. This section is on how to make the background transparent.

Download Paint.net.
Launch Paint.net and open your avatar.
Click on the Magic Wand tool.
Select the background then press Delete.
Save the image as a Portable Network Graphic (.png extension).

Correct Sizing

Sizing is the main cause of failed avatars. If not the correct size, the background will automatically be de-trans'd on uploading.
Changing the size is different for both static images and animated images.

If the image is static (non-moving):
Open Paint.net.
Click Image and then click Image Size.
Change the largest side to 75 pixels. The reason for this is that if the largest size is changed, then it will work as both sides will be smaller than 75 pixels.
If scaling is on, the other side will be changed automatically. If it isn't, make sure scaling is on.
Save the file.

If the image is animated (moving):
Go to gifresizer.
Click Browse and select your image.
If the image has one side larger than another, make sure you know what side is larger. If the largest side is the width, enter '75' in the W box on gifresizer. If the largest side is the height, enter '75' in the H box on gifresizer.
If the image is square, enter '75' in both the W and H boxes on gifresizer.
Click Send.
Wait for a while, and your new image will be generated. Right click and select Save Image.

Uploading It To Your Profile

Log into Blockland Forums.
Click on Profile.
On the left, click Forum Profile Information.
Click I will upload my own picture... then click Browse and select your image.
Scroll down and click Change Profile.
Don't worry if it takes a while, this is normal, especially for animated images.
Enjoy your new picture!

Any Questions?

Post them in this topic. I am happy to answer any questions and solve any problems.

Mine won't be transparent.

Mine won't be transparent.
I don't actually use Paint.net so I was just going by what other people said worked. I'll download it and tell you what to do.

Mine won't be transparent.
What I did:

Opened the file with Paint.net.
Clicked on the Magic Wand.
Clicked on the Black Background.
Pressed Delete on my keyboard.
Saved as a PNG.

File is attached for you to see the finished product.

What I did:

Opened the file with Paint.net.
Clicked on the Magic Wand.
Clicked on the Black Background.
Pressed Delete on my keyboard.
Saved as a PNG.
I did that too and it did NOT work.

Bump. Still many topics.

This needs to be sticked.

It doesn't mean people would read it. We get posts about other things in Add-ons and posts about how to make add-ons work despite the sticky topics about those.

Yes, but more people would read it and not make topics, and if they do make a topic, it's easier to link then write something out.

Makes sense...
