Well yeah, i was browsing through armorgames when the antivirus virus popped up, i got the internet closed, and i cancelled the install prompt, but for some reason i dont feel im safe...

I scanned with spyhunter, it didnt pick anything up, so im guessing im safe...

If you want to be really safe you can just pull your network cable out before you close them. This is the 100% foolproof way to do it.

If your browser doesn't already have a popup blocker get one. You may want to use a flash blocker too.

It's also possible for ads on sites to be infected on an otherwise clean site and install a trojan through them. Make sure your anti-virus is up to date. It's also a good argument for uac although microsoft did a pretty good job of making it suck so much that nobody uses it.

I prefer using the principle of least privilege. After having an xp computer infected for the 3rd time (it's not my computer), I reformatted it and set up the default account to be limited privilege account and then every time something needs administrator access I just run it under the administrator account.

I didn't bother using that on this machine because I didn't think of it. I haven't gotten an infection in years though and it's running windows 7 anyway which helps out a bit. It's also dual boots Ubuntu. Any infection to windows wouldn't effect it and I'm pretty confident I could clean out windows through it.

Anyway, that's all the strategies I have for keeping your computer safe. Minus the unplugging the network thing, I'm too lazy to do it and and clicking the x button is good enough. But if in doubt or unsure you should do it. Sometimes the programs have two x buttons, one inside of the regular window border. Go for the outer one. Or ctrl+alt+delete and end the browser process.

I haven't used Vista so I can't really say a lot about it and I probably should have just said "turn uac on no matter how much you hate the popups because your computer should not be doing something you don't approve of."

Also, I still have that virus that I posted about. I managed to open task manager after I restarted my computer and before it could block it. So then I found the foreign .exe and now AVG is scanning my computer.
