Author Topic: What IS a LAN server, anyway?  (Read 806 times)

I never see any LAN servers, but why is this? How do you set them up, is it hard, or as easy as an internet game?

LAN servers are servers made accessible ONLY to anyone in your network or connected to the same router as you.

So if you and your friend are connected to the same network (NOT ISP, the same ROUTER or NETWORK), and one of you hosts a LAN game, then the other can join the LAN game.

LAN games do NOT require any port forwarding, even before v14.
Only people in your LAN can see or connect to a LAN server.

Is there anyway to get people to connect to me? I transferred from wireless to local area connection.

Again, nobody from the internet can connect to your LAN server.
It's impossible. It's like having a party inside a giant concrete hollow cube with no way of getting in and inviting everyone you know to the party.

Local Area Connection, like is 2 computers are connected specifically to each other.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Local access network!
Area*

The easiest way to help people picture a LAN is just a network between multiple computers at your house.

I used to have a router like that.
