That eventing system for maps is so confusing. So far all I've managed is simple moving doors/windows and simple two stop elevators. It's powerful, but complex.
Well, my event experience with BL really pays off.  I ended up using a different strategy than valve's, I have the doors open when an autospawned cube enters a trigger at the end of the dropper.

Try that rust colored metal on the roof?  I like the black shingles, I just wanna see how itd look

A preview of the map:

Yeah, it's on a fast render, and I don't have proper lighting in.

It looks fine except for that obvious use of a single light entity in the upper left corner.

Then again, it's not that hard to capture the 'portal' look texture and geometry wise, but the lighting is portal-esque so that's good.

Yeah, the eventing system in Hammer is kind of similar to BL's, but it's just something about the way they organize that confuses me. Or at least  I think it would be difficult to put together more complex things.

Edit: Sorry for double post; I meant to copy the above text and at it to the above post.

Yeah, it takes quite a bit of programming knowlegde to make a fully scripted map

Terrible lighting and a few texture glitches that need to be worked out, but here's an updated interior pick.

I would post maps, but it would spoil the new GM gamemode im making...

Hint: It will use blockhead ragdolls and playermodels.

Yay.

My map is mostly complete now.  I just need to add correct lighting to the main chamber, add the fizzler button's status thingy, and then add the elevators.
As you can see, it's changed a lot.  I'm no longer using stairs (At one point, I was using a lift!) and now it's just a door directly to the end.

Looks good, but is that really how the door frames to fizzlers look, with the two fizzler emitters and then just flat across the top? I haven't played Portal in forever but it just looks a bit off. Maybe it's just me.

Looks great, though.

Yeah, it is, last I checked.

I'm going to try to get back into mapping, I kinda lost my drive when my hammer forgeted up.
It's fixed now, and I might try and make a GMod map or two.

my failed maps

these maps where ruined and unfinished because i could not get the models to stay. AKA the ufo, houses, or trees
