Author Topic: Arghh... Linux or no?  (Read 1371 times)

After an odd very extensive turn of events I've forgeted up windows XP on one of my older computers.
In turn, I've been contemplating whether or not to install Ubuntu on it.

Other then Puppy Linux (which I'm running on this machine right now...) I've never used a Linux Distro.
And I have quite a few questions. First off, I was wondering if I could get steam on it and perhaps be able to play some of the games linked to that account.

First off,
linux mint
Get out if you don't know what you're talking about.

Second off,
I would recommend Ubuntu Linux, since I've been using it for quite a while. To play STEAM games, you'll need to get a program called WINE off of Synaptic Package Manager, and you should be able to use any Windows app on Linux. However, if you're going to be using mainly Windows Binaries, I would say just reinstall Windows (or possibly dual-boot Windows and Linux).

Thanks for the reply

I would've loved to dual-boot Linux and XP but I really screwed up XP.

Without the install disk (wonder where that went...) I have been unable to repair my installation. And it appears that there is no recovery file or program on my HDD where windows was installed.

linux mint
and Ubuntu are the same things.

Diffrent variation on Ubuntu with Mint.

Also Puppy is good for usb flash drives and so is Damn Small Linux.

Also, I like PCLinuxOS the best for simplicity for a RPM distro. Mandriva is eww to this.

I started the process of splitting my partition despite windows xp being inoperable.

Hopefully I'll be able to hunt down the problem and fix it via ubuntu. If not, I'll just use my last W7 license...
