Ummmm... I'm not sure if this will turn out great or horrible.

I have never once seen that map. EVER.
I say go with a slate.

Ya, i kinda have a messy but working system going on. And yes i know, it looks like ass, but im too lazy to make my own landscape.
This map is creek

And here is how the mining works
Hit the copper rocks 20 times to get one ore.
You can then go to the anvils to make a weapon with. x number of bars. If you make a hatchet you can now chop down trees for wood to make a bow. You can optionally sell the items for money.

I assume this is all with variables. If you die do you loose all the variables you had like for quests and stuff? Or is there a way to make that not happen?

You set the variables to client. Player variables are lost once the object dies or respawns. A good way to do it is so that you have most of your money set to the player, so that when you die you lose it. Quest objects and items are set to a client, therefore you have them once you spawn.

I also use client saving variables. Whenever the player earns or subtracts a variable, i would have it save. If the player dies, when he leaves the spawnbrick zone it will immediately load his variables and last saved items. Items usually save when you craft some or sell some etc. This is all down with variables. I also use the money mod.

Oh, I always add it to player so I didn't know that.

WTF HAO 2 GET PROMPT EVENTS 2 WORK?!

I hate mining systems like that.. I can show you how to make a random chance if you don't know how.

Nay, random chance ain't my thing

I have changed it to slate if you haven noticed
here are some things I have added to the "new" version
an actual mine
bigger area (will get even bigger soon.)
two towns:
copper town and bronze town
1 quest
1 enemy
 some things to come
iron town
halight town
spells
a way to actually use your cash
better space usage
more quests

I don't really like the checkerboard style. Other than that, it looks OK.
