Author Topic: Healthcare Bill passed House tonight  (Read 29058 times)

I'm trying to say read and observe their facts and arguments.
I feel like a lot of times when I read people's facts and arguments and still hold my convictions, people call me 'close-minded' and 'brainwashed'. All too often, I feel like people equate "reading people's facts and arguments" to "agreeing with them." Just because I don't agree with someone doesn't mean I'm not listening to what they have to say.

Because you're not in Canada?
Then I live in... Magical New York?
Mad props to the forgeter who understands what I mean.

If New York was hit by a nuke, would it then be considered the "Glowing Apple"?

You seriously didn't get the joke. But still, none-the-less a tad funny what you did there.

Until you provide a valid reason not to support reform, it is illogical to be against it.

Obviously we don't live in a world governed entirely by logic, and the right side of an argument isn't the only the only side capable of presenting a logical argument.

Besides, if you're so hellbent on logic, and you say America is in the stuffter and we're only now taking steps towards being not stuffty, then move to a country that isn't so bad once you are able to, after all, it's only logical.

too bad you have no reason to be against it, so you're a moron.

HURR ID ONT LIKE IT CAUSE I DONT

I'm sure that I can find a plenty of things I don't like about it. If one of you all can rebut each of those points then I guess I have to support it.

I just haven't had time, I'll get around to it this weekend if you guys still care enough about convincing me this bill is a good thing.

i'm sure they'll be waiting. :cookieMonster:

lol the typical "LIBERALS HATE AMERICA" stuff

I never said America is in the stuffter. In my opinion it'll be the most powerful country in the world for the next century. The healthcare system was in the stuffter, yes, but that's why we're fixing it.

America is behind on almost everything. Healthcare (which we're fixing, I get it) Education, emissions per capita is 5x higher than China, 10th in GDP per capita , way behind Japan in technological innovation, we have higher unemployment rates than most developed countries, we have a horrendously outdated and crumbling infrastructure among other problems. We're also China's economic bitch.

So what do you have to back up your opinion?

America has the highest GDP in the world. Japan has ONE THIRD the GDP.

Even the entire European Union is barely higher than the US.

America has the most powerful military in the world. We control the oceans, and therefore all trade routes. If the US Navy doesn't want you doing something, you can't do it (provided they have the will to stop you).

America's Navy is larger than the combined navy of the REST OF THE WORLD.

America's economy is highly industrialized. We are not a developing nation, and can export vast amounts of products.

America's infrastructure can only be fixed by increased government spending, which is ironic because that's exactly what you conservatives don't want.

Do us all a favor and learn things before you speak.

NASA and the US military pioneered every single important technological innovation of the last century, from nuclear power to the internet.

If you add up active and reserves for both China and the US, there are about the same number of troops.

First of all, and I specified this, I was talking about per-capita GDP.

Secondly, you didn't address education or unemployment.

Thirdly I wasn't talking about military force at all, but using the military to settle disagreements is hardly a good idea.

Fourthly, we do not control the oceans. While it's true that our Navy is badass, there's a thing called international waters.

All that blue stuff is water that no country owns or controls.

Finally, government spending or not, without an infrastructure America cannot function, period. A contiguous, efficient infrastructure is key to trade and the moving of goods aka an economy. If it takes more I35W collapses for America as a whole to realize that our infrastructure to go down the tubes, than fine. A unacceptably high percentage of our bridges and highways are out of shape and outdated.
