Does the new Youtube suck?

Yes
No

Author Topic: Youtube forgeted up their Video pages again.  (Read 10250 times)

I most of all hate the new rating system. There is no in between, it is either "OMG AWEOMSE" or "it sucks. " The videos page stretch and take up the whole screen, the new description's place sucks. I bet youtube has received millions of complaints about this but fail to do anything about it.

I'm hoping the new Youtube is an April Fool's Joke, and Squideey's just playing along.

Please be playing along, Squideey. D:

The only thing I like about the new layout is how they did away with the comment rating thing. I have always hated the comment rating. It existed only for people who are too lazy to say why they disagree or agree and just mark that they do without even replying. That in itself  wasn't so bad, but what the hell was with that "if six people thumbs down it gets hidden" thing? So if six people disagree with me I am no longer entitled to voicing my opinion?

But really, I'd rather keep that than this new thing. Everything is all over the place, it took my five minutes the figure out that there is still a home button, and:

@Ratings: Statistics showed that more people voted 5 and 1 stars.

@stretch video: Click this button:    It's that easy.

They've switched to a thumbs up / thumbs down rating system for videos like Digg and Reddit.

This isn't even worth explaining to you.

Another flaw:

I just realized that the comments rating system is still there.

Although this time is scattered about my day, it took ten minutes to notice that.

I think this is permanent, they re changed the logo but kept the stupid layout. I really hate the rating system most. There is no in between. For example, a lot of blockland videos have good plots but laggy camera, i usually give them a 3/5. Now it is either 5/5 or 1/5.

You can still give a 3/5. For the amount of weight it had in determining the star rating of a video you might as well not vote. Not voting is the equivelant of giving one up and one down vote, or a 3/5. The only place you miss out now is 2/5 and 4/5.

It would be trivial to write a greasemonkey script that converted up/down votes to stars. It wouldn't be quite as accurate as the old system since 2, 3, and 4 ratings wouldn't be counted, but those votes don't matter as much anyway, (a) they are weighted less than 1 and 5s and (b) if you actually used these votes you are in a very small minority, most people used 1 and 5.

As for the layout, I've already stated my opinion. As far as video sites go the only thing youtube has going for it is its popularity. Almost every other site on the web looks better and runs faster. Youtube has come a long way especially with the site redesign but its got a ways to go.

The blog and forum are spammed up with negative posts, so I have a feeling they will wind up doing something.
