last year i ran quad-core video, with a few of them.
x64 anti aliasing is insane. although its only noticeable if your using top resolution on a 24inch screen.

people only look at the clock speeds and such, when they hardly make the difference.
the 200 series didnt impress me

Sounds great. I'll have to look into it.

Off the top of your head, do they support tri-sli? Like I said I've got 1 good 9800 lying around.

Looks like I'll have to wait until a new one is listed. My GPU price cap right now is under $200 (mommy and daddy won't lend me more than $100).

You should also think about what games you regularly play that make use of graphics ect.

With new games now, it's becomming more focused on good cpus now.

The i7 is a fine choice for him.

Except he's getting an i5.

Yeah, the i7 was an idea. I figured that the only (general) difference is Hyper-Threading. I don't use any hyper-threaded programs so I figured that I would save the $90 and go with the i5.

I'd seriously reconsider SLIing your "9800".

A single 5770 can be found for less than $150 and is almost as powerful as having two 9800GTs in SLI. This leaves you an upgrade option to add a second 5770 (or higher) and get performance close to the HD5870.

A 5770 will use less power, generate less heat, and take up less room than a GX2. In crossfire two 5770s will easily "crush" a GX2.

The i5 750 is a good choice and one that I am considering myself. Right now most of my funds are depleted after buying my HD5870 and 3 monitors so it will have to wait. :(

I've always ran a dual monitor display on the 9800.

I had considered running 5770's in crossfire but I was afraid that I would lose performance because the bandwith on my PCI slots would bifurcate down to x8.

How's that 5870 by the way? I was considering one until I saw the $600 price tag.

I run dual monitors on my ATI Radeon HD 3450.

Also quick question- do you have to have identical cards to SLI?

With my birthday just finishing I need something to spend my money on.

I've been planning this build for sometime and now that I have enough I might as well pursue it. I'm reusing some of my old components but it's mostly new.

Just save the loving money god. That's what everyone does, they get money and just go blow it the first day they get it.

Save it for what? This is what I'm saving for- a new computer. Computers are an investment, blowing the money would be buying music or cheap hookers. Come on.

If you are worried about bandwidth on x8 PCIe slots, why are you considering 9800GT SLI?  ;)  Seriously though, the x8 bandwidth is not an issue and results in very little performance degradation.

A 5870 actually. I purchased mine for $420, double lifetime warranty and all. The 5970 is two 5870s in internal Crossfire set at 5850 clock speeds and regularly retails for $650-750.

The ability to use 2 monitors on a single card has been a feature for quite awhile; I was using two of my new monitors on my GTX260 up until about 2 weeks ago. The ATI 5xxx series allows you to use up to 3 monitors on a single card; a feature typically reserved for workstation cards. The best feature (in my mind) is that you can use those 3 monitors for triple-monitor gaming (known as Eyefinity). I've been having lots of fun using it so far. :D

Yeah I saw that. I have a 15 inch laying around, I'm using two 22's right now.

I was a little iffy on ATI's display port thing. It looks odd to me. I'd be glad to try it out though.

And as for that Birthday money stuff. fu

Double post.

Sort of. Besides Sli you can run Physx with Nvidia cards. It's usually done using a higher end card (e.g. GTX 285) and a lesser card (e.g. 9800).

Could I run PhysX with my 260?
