This seems to show the HD5870 has pretty decent benchmarks compared to other ones: http://www.guruht.com/2010/03/battlefield-bad-company-2-hd5870-vs.html

Oh. That's the main game I'm playing at the moment ... What's wrong with it? That'd be a real deal breaker depending on how long they take to fix stuff like this.

Well, they've been releasing hotfixes for it lately, so some of the really bad problems are fixed, but right now the problems are long loading times (on my 5970 I load in 20 seconds while Nvidia users load in 10, lesser cards have longer load times) and weird wavy lines going across the screen whenever you are inside a dynamic shadow, but that last one is only for crossfire users, which you won't be.

Actually, you're accustomed to assuming stuff. You're Christian.

Man, you guys are so easy, I don't even have to try.

What I really love is how I'm supposed to be this bigoted fanatic, and you guys are supposed to be the epitome of logic and reason, and yet most of the time I get insults like these.

It's weird how when one side labels itself, it usually follows the opposite of that label.  For example, earlier I said
I am a genius.
and now here I am trolling on the Blockland forums.  It's a funny old world, isn't it?

The 5870 is an awesome card, you will love it.  It's great value for the price, there is no need to go with another card right now.  Don't worry about it.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I'm going to place the order now but I just left the 9GB RAM for jokes since I multitask like a bitch.

truth is is that Nvidia's are just as bad.

are you CRAZY?

Well, multitasking is exactly why you would need RAM, so it sounds like 9GB is great for you.  Try getting it in threes though, see if he can sell you 3x3GB so you can still use triple channel memory.  i7s LOVE triple channel memory.

are you CRAZY?

Yes, but what does that have to do with Nvidia having bad drivers?

OK so someone else said the 7200rpm hard drive would make things a bit slower and that I should get a 32gb SSD for the OS only and put everything else on a HDD. Sounds kind of extreme though.

It's not worth it, it's just the boot time that will be faster.

On the other hand it's not a bad idea to put the OS on its own drive, whether it's a $40 Western Digital hard drive or a more expensive SSD is up to you.

Like Patrick said, that will just make it boot faster.  SSDs are so expensive, they really aren't that worth it right now.

In the future, you would be able to buy a 500GB SSD to handle both your OS and all of your data for the same price as a 2TB 7200rpm drive now.  It will speed up things like searching times and loading times A LOT, but they are so expensive now that it's not worth it.

Just make sure you get a hard drive with enough space.  I thought that my 1TB drive was overkill, but the space is filling up fast!  And I know one of you is going to say that joke, don't do it.  I know already.

These forums are so good, I need to go through all the topics and write a book.

I've had a 1TB external for like a year now and it's only about 1/3 full. It's mostly for backing stuff up so another 1TB will be plenty of space for sure. What else do I need to worry about - processor speed?

The processor in that build is more than enough. Don't pay much attention to the clock speeds when comparing completely different CPU architectures.

Then, Invert3d, always a charm, comes in and tries to make sure the huge bags of money Nvidia dumped on his front lawn paid him is being put to good use by coming up with all of these outrageous claims to make you buy an Nvidia 400 series card.

???

I said something factual and backed it up with links and statistics.

Did I say he should buy one?

There's nothing else you need to worry about.  The 920 is great, you can overclock it past the 975's speed without even increasing the voltage.  Buy the darn computer.

Yes, and you also told him that Santa Claus isn't real.  HOW COULD YOU BE SO HURTFUL???!?!?

Are you honestly still butthurt about being wrong that you attempt to troll?
