Author Topic: Super Hard Math Problem  (Read 9272 times)

90% of this thread is made of FAIL. You could at least be honest and go elsewhere in case you have no clue of what's happening.

FYI, calculators can do it, as long as it's a graphing calculator with support for complex numbers.
If I input your expression correctly you get: -3.039806...x10^-13 + 2.27273986...*10^-12 i
But of course, it doesn't help much. We'll have to take other methods. I can't help, as I haven't studied complex numbers since 12th grade, and they never told me about roots of index i or anything like that.

All we are doing is moving i to the numerator. When you move it from the denominator you have to multiply every term by it. So we aren't factoring it out, we're actually skipping factoring it in.

We could multiply it across in which case the numerator would be -(pi)i+i. That's not common practice though.

Mmkay. Thanks for helping me.

I can't have it in decimal form, if I could, I I would have just grabbed my TI and solved it. I have to simplify. Try entering 4x = 2; x in your calculator, and see if it says x = 1/2. Chances are, it won't.

TI-89's can solve it in exact form, which leaves pi as a symbol.

:O Do want.

Damn i swapped the 92 and the 65 round

That's an odd form of dyslexia.

solve the equation by completing the square

8x^2-4x+27=0
cross posting but apropriate here

Look if you want help with this just message me or anyone who knows what the hell they're doing with math around here.

This problem took very little time. Follow the procedure for completing the square and don't be shocked if you get a complex number.
