But Skip isn't at all related to my real name.
So you're just going to give up all that power?

Wimp

Jesus, fifteen loving replies.

I wouldn't plan on being rude about it, I take the same stand as you do. I personally think religion overall is overrated, people have the free right to believe whatever they want to believe, and I respect that.

Tell your family so you don't get dragged off to church, but you don't need to tell your friends. And ignore all the cigarettes saying "have fun in hell" because you're an atheist. There is no hell.

I don't go to church anyway.

It's not about defending yourself, it's about giving the people you love information. If I suddenly decided to be gay, do you think it would be fair to my parents to continue trying to deceive them into thinking I'm straight, or should I tell them about the decision I've made?

That's a good point. I partially brought it up with my dad once upon a time and he asked me if what I said was really what I believed (I don't remember what I said anymore) but we got interrupted.

Damn my poor spelling...
Anyway, just be cool about people shunning you... people are crazy about the topic, just cool with it, or don't care at all. Avoid god crazy people.

I don't tell my parents, I don't want to make them sad of me or make them feel they raised me wrong. I try to respect peoples religion, but I can't stand it.  I can't stand people praying or sticking there head underwater for God.  The way people abuse religion is awful too, all it does it cause wars.  The crusades are a good example, they were fighting over a holy land (correct me if im wrong.) I don't think there is a god, but I think there is something that created us out there.
Yes, also look at the U.S. and the middle east, we dug ourselves a hole with the Muslim states because we sided with Israel, and we were digging it deeper with extra searching Muslims at airports and extra searching anybody from the east.

You know skip is the devils middle name.

I thought it was this:

Satan Lucifer handicap

Not:
Satan Skips OnGirls

I've talked about this before, but it just tears me up inside when people proclaim that they are Atheists because they hate religion. Atheism is not the absence or abstaining of religion, it's the belief that there are no deities or godly creatures, Christian or otherwise. People say that they are Atheists because they hate how Christians act towards them; when people come up to said person and talk about how they're going to go to hell if they don't believe etc. etc. This is like picking up the most delicious beverage in the world and then throwing it away because the packaging is terrible.

Don't listen to this starfish.^

If the people around you can't accept your beliefs, you don't want them around you anyway.
We don't adjust. Somebody forces it on us.

Do it.

Unless the religious beliefs of those that surround him inflict on his personal freedoms or bring him into harms way, I see no reason for him to earn the ire of the people he cares about. As long as he is a dependent, there is nothing to gain from letting the world know how he feels about organized belief.

There are plenty of situations in which religion is detrimental to society but these are rarely worth the hardships that come with fighting those battles. All businesses pay taxes, but churches of all denominations are generally exempt from tax laws despite their profit-earning nature. Despite that fact, I personally don't write letters to my local/state government or act out against this unfairness.

For the time being, I'd suggest you try and keep quite about it. There are better situations to be in when you let your loved ones know.

Sirrus,

It's not that I hate it or anything, I just disagree with them... Most all of them.

Then that's a problem that you have with religion, not with God. Even Jesus hated the religious officials of his time.

Jesus never hated anyone. Only strongly disliking them. I don't remember reading he spit on the jews when he was on the cross.

Good point, hate is an overly strong word.

What I'm trying to say is that in Jesus' time, he was pretty revolutionary in the way that he talked about God and how people praised Him.

And the poll... is not helpful at all.

Yes. Very. I should get off this topic if it's about atheists. No offense, it's not that they aren't luvable, it's just that since it's not my religion I don't want to get mixed up, quoted, and cursed at. It's handicapped when religions fight. Also, FYI, Atheist isn't a religion. If they don't believe in any religion then they can't be Atheist. XD Just for thoughts

Its funny, because the only atheist at my school are hated by everyone and are the most ugly people in the school.

I've told my parents, whom i confused on what they believe exactly but they're both pretty different and don't follow any specific religion, they didn't care.  There are a good number of atheists in my school so  no one really cares (I'd say 40% or more).  I'm pretty sure some of my teachers are or have been as well.  Also I get along well despite having arguments with theists rarely, usually over stupid things like some kid that told me to burn in hell because I said happy zombie  day or some stuff.  I laughed my ass off and told him I rather go to hell if it existed, we still talk regularly and stuff, I don't think he even remembers to be honest.  There's other ones too, but I don't hold it against them they're nice people over all.
