Author Topic: Blockland Trading Card Game  (Read 3901 times)

The Idea

Well, I've seen several Suggestions and Requests threads about how people want a blockland trading card game, as well as I've been asked personally to make one. The ones that have been made in the past are all wrong in my opinion, so I've taken it up to try to make one myself.

Basic highlights:
Get several people to install a serverside mod that logs a person's name, BL_ID, avatar shape, and avatar colors.
From this data, I can generate a picture of the person for use in a trading card game.
As people do actions on the forums and servers with this mod, it defines their type of card.

Examples:
Post Whore: Has a post average of over 8 posts per day.
Elder: Has a blockland key lower than 5,000 or registered on the forums before [somedate]
Experienced Player: Plays on at least 3 servers (that have this mod) a day for a week straight (the more you join per day, the more tolerance it has for skipping days, like if you go to 50 servers that have this mod a day for a week, then skip three days, you'll still have this type)
Rare: Plays on two or less servers with this mod a day for a month; or has a post average lower than or equal to 1 a day.

More examples will be added if I work on this.

Clarification on the serverside mod:
This mod will ONLY take data from players that join your server and upload it to a database. It will not give you any special privileges in the future, such as "Beta Tester" or anything of the kind. It will simply help the development of this mod and speed it up. Depending on if I decide to or if Ephi lets me, I may use data from RTB to help out for some of the titles.

ALSO: I am unsure if this will be a "collectable" type trading card game, or if you will actually have battles and such.

Predicaments

  • Accents have confuzzled me. The beta will most likely not include hat-attached apparel.
  • Some malicious users may try to mess with playing cards of enemies. I have ruled out browser use to edit variables, so it can only be done through Torque. I am trying to think of some kind of authentication system to make sure it's not a human, but I'm at a loss.

Noteworthy People

Anyone that downloads the mod and posts on the topic saying they did will get a slot down here where it will tell their server name, status, ect for anyone that wants to be sure their character will be on a card when it first comes out for beta.

NOTE: my server does not have the mod yet, that's part of the reason it has "Research" in the title.

Newest Update

Previously mentioned "Serverside Addon" finished. Will beta test tomorrow morning.

Interesting concept. If this is a collectible type game, what determines the rarity of the cards?

Play time or forums time. Of course, if someone buys an ID and plays once and never plays again, their card won't become rare, it'll probably become deleted.

looks cool i wold like to test it

Maybe they'd want to feel special and have a rare card.

So they would send money to your paypal account or something? :/

No, they'd send money to Eric Hartman and in return receive a new blockland ID, which they would play only once.

hm i would love to have my picture on a card.

The paying thing alone would mean you'd have to have Badspot's active support.

Sounds like and interesting concept. I would like to beta test.

Question: What about those of us with morphic avatars? Almost every time I log on, I randomize my appearance, until it suits the server/my mood. This could result with inaccurate photos. I suggest a system that either changes the photo to that of the current avatar or a system of photo submission.

It would simply show the avatar of the last server you have been to. Ideally, most servers would have the serverside mod (like RTB) and so every time someone used your card it would show the result you used last, or are using at the moment.

I approve the above concept. This would also work with auto-updating the cards information (number of times on server, join frequency, bans, and the like)

I wouldn't want to record bans or kicks, or anything negative for that matter. I don't want this to become the next "Unofficial Blockland Blacklist".
