I watched this last night, and I really don't see how it won best picture. It was a good movie, but I wasn't blown away or anything. The plot just seemed to be weak, scattered, shallow, and contrived. Also, it seemed too long.

I disagree. I think it was very well done. I think the part when he went home was little unneeded but followed through with "war is a drug"

Avatar > Hurt Locker

Avatar > Hurt Locker

yiffing blue cigarettes > Military shooter

yes that makes sense

Avatar > Hurt Locker
forget you, Avatar is an overrated piece of stuff. I watched and nearly bashed my head into a wall. James Cameraman (Joke) really forgeted everything up after Predator

It's because it wasn't a conventional movie, it was based entirely on legitimate stuff Marines deal with, and portrayed it as a movie. If you consider it in that light rather than comparing it with a money-whoring movie like Avatar, you'd understand why it won best picture. Actual Marines have watched this movie and sympathized with it entirely, because it's just the kind of crazy stuff that goes down in the Middle East that they deal with day-in day-out. It was a lot deeper than eye candy (Avatar), and that brings with it a lot more appreciation. It's one of the better movies I've seen, and I loved it. Unfortunately I did not see the last 20 minutes or so because I was too tired to stay up and watch it (rented it), but I loved it.

Some interviewed EOD's said that, that is a serious thing; They get addicted to the intense adrenaline rush that comes with defusing bombs, so much so that some of them don't even want to go home.

Exactly. Throughout the movie when they told him to pull back, he just kept going cause he loved it. When he went home and talked to his kid he said, "As you get older, you begin to only love one or two things." He then redeployed.

It was a good movie, but I wasn't blown away or anything.

That's one of the best/worst puns I've ever seen.  Great/terrible job.  You've made/ruined my day.

I see what you're saying, but my impression of it was that it wasn't extraordinary. It didn't really provoke thought or suck me in like Inglorious Basterds. Now, it told the story very well and based on what you said that was a very accurate story, but from my point of view the whole thing seemed very flat and one-dimensional: It presented everything to you and didn't really engage in much deeper thought.

Now, I'm not saying Avatar should have won. If it were up to me, after seeing these two films, I would've picked Inglorious Basterds over this, with this in a close second. Quentin Tarantino is a genius in my opinion. The cinematic craft that went into making Inglrious Basterds is just mind blowing to me; it all fits together so perfectly and the story is great.

Ha, didn't even think about it like that.

My dad got mad at the movie. The whole time the were clearing the building he was shouting that they are doing it wrong. And constantly confused as to why he didn't just shoot the guy with the cell-phone. The way he handled the detonators.

We still liked it as a comedy though  :cookieMonster:
