Author Topic: Is it possible to make the desktop bigger than the monitor?  (Read 2384 times)

For example, if you have 1000X500 display, and you want to make it, say, 2000X1000 virtually, can you? You would view the extera 1000X500 by moving your mouse to the edge of the screen. I swear I've seen this, and I really could use it for blockland, after all, a screen smaller than the event menu really sucks.
EDIT:I'm asking for links to free programs that do this.

I just realized that my post actually makes sense.

It's part of your video card's drivers.
My laptop does exactly what you're talking about, it supports a monitor of 1024x768, but can go up to a resolution of 2048x1536, and scroll when the mouse moves to an edge.

Sadly, you'd need a graphics card that can do this, there's no software-way (that I know of) of doing this.

If you want to try it:
Go to Display Settings
Click the "Settings" tab
Move the "Screen Resolution" tab to a higher resolution. If you can't, then it's not supported.

I actually just tried this. I mean like making the desktop bigger. like, you scroll up, and StartBar dissapears.
EDIT:
HOLY forget IT REALLY DOES

Woah. Just put something there... and bam... Wow..
EDIT2:
OK, can I use this to make the blockland client bigger?

Don't do this, it sucks so bad. On the computers at school, you log into the computer itself and then log into remote desktop connection to access the Windows Server desktop. When the resolution is really low on the first computer, you sometimes need to use a scroll bar like on your browser to see your entire desktop and it's one of the most annoying ways to use a computer.

I'd imagine if you have a not-old monitor from within at least 5 years ago, you can increase the resolution to something higher than your monitor supports.

Nope. I have the basic Dell monitor as my small monitor in my dual monitor set-up and when I try to increase it past 1024x768 it says "That resolution is not supported" and defaults back to 1024x768.

It depends on probably the way the graphics card/chip and monitor communicate I'd say.

My 9800GT supports huge resolutions, but my old monitor supported only up to 1024x768. Anything higher than that and it'd say Out of Range.
Now with my new 19" widescreen monitor, I can see up to 1920x1080 or 1080p, and it'll still show up on my monitor. It'll just be squished.

I'm using a netbook, mind you.
1024X800 or something.

Bump.
Is it possible to emulate a better driver when windows boots?

800x600 is available with that monitor resolution, and can fit every known GUI in Blockland.

orlly.
Tell me why I can't see my area where I input my arguments then.
I can't see the final box.
