Author Topic: Odd .exe file in my Local Settings\Application Data (Read 3269 times)

Wtf is ekhnlq.exe? It has a few .dat files along with it but I have no idea what it's for... Apparently it's in my startup processes.

It's not a hidden file so if it's a virus it's not very good at doing it's job, can anyone else tell me if they have this file or if they know what it's for? I'm running XP if it makes any difference

do a scan, and if it is marked as a virus, delete it.
not saying that scans are always accurate, but it wouldnt hurt.
also, everything in strange folders are strange

That's the thing, it's not in a strange folder.... It's just hanging out in the Local Settings\Application Data folder with it's .dat files next to it, no hidden folder besides the root Local Settings but that's normally hidden anyway no nothing to protect it from being discovered, I would think that a virus would do a better job of hiding itself

i have a virus, which is still on my computer apparently.

Viruses are getting loving lazy these days, not even buried in System32?

I just scanned the folder it was in and it didn't even come up as a tracking cookie.
I'm going to assume it handles important data and ignore it

Apparently it's in my startup processes, so I assume that it's already running and doing nothing harmful, I'm not losing any files, my PC isn't lagging at all and my internet is at it's usual T1 level

Same, I tried googling it and all I got was a link to a French site or whatever it was, I'm 990% certain I can't read French or whatever so I would never have gone to it.

I'm just going to ignore it, it's probably a Java thing or whatever

When I got a virus a few months ago, it was named some random letters and was hanging out in Virtual Store, it was the worst programmed virus ever. I just ended it's process and deleted it =\

I'd personally delete it.

If it was notably dangerous, it'd be in google. My guess is that some un-heard-of software put it there.
What are the .dats named?
