Sort of stop becoming Machinima when it goes out of game, people don't seem to realise this and Machinima is starting to look like some cheesy photoshop films these days or some pre-rendered scene.
It's still in game, you just make a map and it triggers many events, which make models talk and stuff.Take combine nation for example, that was made in SDK.
