If I just wanted to see funny faces I would look at the back of a 3rd grader's school notebook.
A good joke can't just be an introduction to a scenario and then a stupid face. It's setup is basically "Lets eat oysters." "I don't like oysters" "-ridiculous face after eating oysters-"
Only a little kid could really find it funny, and comics like Garfield's target audience really isn't kids. I think Jim Davis just gets away with being unfunny by riding the fact that his comic has been around for 40 years.
A funnier comic is Garfield Minus Garfield, a tragic tale of a crazy schizophrenic middle-aged man.
