I'm pretty sure the rivalry spawns from all the drama on the forums. People get butthurt and therefore feel they have to create a "better" add-on to be accepted again. In a way, I almost like it better when forums DON'T have "off-topic" sessions. It really limits the drama. Plus, instead of people coming up with awesome ideas and never sharing/making crap, those ideas could be turned into a final product with some teamwork.
Possible, also I can't remember a "drama" section or anything similar in the Clonk community and there were/are several forums.
But now lets change topic:
While watching some videos on Youtube the idea of a fast-command-system came up to my mind. Who ever played
Freedom Fighters can imagine what I mean, it should be something similar. For the others I'll explain it:
Typing is slow. Especially in combat it just takes too long to give more detailed commands to teammates because they might already start doing something else while you are still typing or you might get shot or whatever. It should be just a simple keybind. First you have to look at the teammate you want to give an order (only teamleader), then you press that key, look at the place he shall walk and then simply click or press that key again. That teammate then gets maybe a simple center print and if he has the compass mod a new active waypoint will appear with the name "Command" or whatever so he/she knows, "Ah okay, master chief wants me to walk there." Of course that's just one way of displaying the command.
That would only work with certain people who are willing to follow orders, but could be an interesting way of communicating in a team.
Tell me what you think.
