And I don't know about your schools, but every school profile at my school is stored on a master server which allows login from anywhere in the building and a constant lost of documents.
Colleges: Oh no, now I need to open Maya and Microsoft Word!

Since when do 6 people save documents at the same time and expect it to save exactly the same speed?

You're forgetting about technical colleges who research multiple technologies.  MIT is a prime example
they have their hands in just about every field of research and make their own programs that need higher processing speeds than your normal computer can provide.  So they use a supercomputer to do ridiculous physics calculations and whatnot.
