The point of having hostages is to let them alive. Create a ultimatum with whomever, get the stuff you want and release the hostages.  Who would want to rescue a dead hostage and what stupid idiot would kill hostages? That's pointless.

this is not a very realistic movie
they would not send in a strike force to save random fursuiters.
im pretty sure any petty group of people can hold up a bunch of terrorists.
