I side with no one on this matter. While he was rude and inconsiderate in the server, and in the IRC, you certainly held up your fair share. You didn't have to insult him nor his opinions, just as he didn't have to do it to you. And, on the IRC, you were provoking him, obviously. Really, it's a shame when these religious conflicts take place. In fact, conflicts of these types anywhere. They cause so much trouble, but both you you, as said, played your part in escalating it.
However, we certainly can learn from these experiences. Just let it go on this matter. Don't try to provoke the boy, just leave him be. Forgive, learn, move on, and apply. I'm sure both of you are capable of being very nice people, and I'm sure you both have similar traits, despite the weighted difference. Maybe one of you two can forgive, eventually, as I hope most will be able to do one day.

Sometimes I wish people would stop seeing the "Ours" and the "Theirs", and start seeing the universal "Us".
