The Core i7 980X offers far superior performance, but at a ridiculous price premium.

Unless you're going to be folding proteins or finding new prime numbers, just go with the X6. There's a line between "getting the best stuff out there" and "buying power you don't need"

Im going with "Getting the best stuff out there"

Thats what I have been going for this whole time.

So you like spending exorbitant amounts of money to buy power that you're never going to use?

makes sense.

No, so that my computer dosn't outdate so fast. This one cant run games for stuff, it can hardly run MapleStory.

Edit: Whoops, Did I say MapleStory? I was just thinking about it while posting. I mean Games Like GTAIV, Crysis, Can Hardly run COD 4.

Both of these processors are just enthusiast processors. You buy them just cause you can.

So? I want a loving awesome computer, regaurdless who thinks its stupid.

You have an amazing computer now, and it's future proof so it will last you. If you have the cash, what's not to like? :D

Computers outdate. Period. How fast it outdates doesn't matter how much money you spend on it.

Besides, why would you go from a computer that can't run Maplestory to one that is too powerful for modern games? I had a six year old Compaq Presario up until about two years ago when I bought an Inspiron 518 from Dell with an ATI Radeon 3450 in it and I thought it was monday fast compared to what I was using before.

Now that I realize how stuffty this computer is, I'm working on a computer comprised of high end parts from about two years ago (GTX260, Phenom 955 3.2x4, etc.) and I'm sure that I'm going to think that my new build is monday fast compared to my stuffty inspiron.

The cost of my new build, $850. Your processor alone is going to cost more than my entire build. Buy parts from two year ago. Compared to what you're using now, your expectations of fast will last two years and then you can buy all the current parts way cheaper then what they are now.

oh p.s., my new computer is going to do fine with most modern games from what I've heard.

If you are a true computer hobbies it doesn't, and shouldn't matter. It's much like collecting coins, but obviously different.
