it takes input from .ogv files
meaning you'd have to do conversions to get stuff off of youtube or rewrite the code to use more extensions

The reason it doesn't output actual text is because different browsers would display it different ways and it would mess up the image. Even if it's not actual text, it's still taking a video and converting it into semicolons. That's pretty damn awesome.
