If you jog, as posted in OP, jog/run in GRASS or DIRT. Hard surfaces (cement, asphalt etc...) damage joints. And If you want to get your running muscles better there are three things I recommend. One is buy ankle weights. Strap them onto your ankles and get running. Its a lot harder than you think. Second is to but a sled. Not a sledding sled, a weight sled. What it is, is a plate type this with a pole in the middle, a rope and some straps. you put weight onto the pole, and strap the straps onto you like a backpack. then go run in the grass. Third is the easiest, but can give you shin splints. Jumping. Get a tapemeasure and lay it down onto the ground as far as it goes. Start just before the tape measure starts. put your arms high into the air and throw then down like if they are a wheel. Go back up, and down(For preparation purposes) Then, jump when you throw your arms UP. Jump as far out as you can. Record results under 1 jump. Continue doing until you feel you can't get higher than x inches. Then instead of just jumping once, jump 3 times, then five. Then, buy a jumprope. Best way to loose weight. I lost a pound in 15 minutes from jump roping. and if you are doing it, make sure you have a lot of room. I was aiming for 100 constant reps. I was at 64 when I fell off the platform I was on and sprained my ankle.
