Author Topic: Your school.  (Read 2508 times)

Chances are, you don't like spending all the time you do daily there, but describe it for us. Every school is different in how they do things, and I always thought most schools were somewhat the same, but there can be some major differences.

If you have any questions, ask!

Here's how my high school goes:

We have 6 one-hour periods. School starts at 7:35 a.m. and ends at 2:28 p.m., which we all think is a very strange time to end. Why not 2:30? When you have lunch depends on your 4th period. 4th period is an hour and a half long, but you do it one of three ways (the school tells you which way you'll be doing, again depending on what class you have):

1. Have a half hour lunch after 3rd period and go to 4th afterward.
2. Go to 4th period for 30 minutes, then have lunch for 30 minutes, and spend the last 30 minutes back in 4th.
3. Have 4th period for a full hour and then have a half hour lunch after.

For Freshmen through Juniors, throughout the year, 4 of your periods are generally academic (Math, English, Science, Social Studies) and the other periods are for electives. Seniors are only required to take 2 academic classes if they've met all their requirements beforehand; Math and English. There's also a new program called "zero-hour" where you can come to school an hour early and squeeze in a 7th class. Every day is the same, classes only switch at semesters. It's pretty boring, but you can get a routine going.

I get to school at 8:05, and end school at 3:20. 5 periods, 1 hour, 10 minutes I think

6 periods, one small break and lunch. About 7 hours total, and I come at 8:00

thats what she said

5 one hour lessons, 20 minute break, one hour lunch.

I have 4 periods a day for half the year, then we switch. Study hall and lunch mixed are mixed in there.  School starts at 7:30AM and ends at 2:32PM.

Arrive 8:34
50 minute periods, 3 minute switching time
29 minute lunch.
7 periods including lunch.
Leave 2:45

Arrive at 8:20
Period 1: Careers, 75 minutes
Period 2: Science, 75 minutes
Lunch Break, 45 minutes
Period 3: Construction, 70 minutes
Period 4: History, 75 minutes
Bell rings at 2:30

Each classroom has a PS3 and flatscreen TV for movie viewing and presentations, as well as we can bring our own PS3 games (Wait what, impossible) and play them at lunch :3

The school's scheduling:
-School starts at 7:30
-On late start wednesdays (every other wednesday), it starts at 8:00.
-Each hour is 45-50 minutes.
-5 minutes inbetween each class
-8 periods per day
-Everyone has a lunch in either 4th, 5th, or 6th hour.  Advisory is built into it.  You either get 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B, etc.  Telling you whether or not you go to advisory or lunch first.
-Ending bell rings at 2:25.

My schedule:
I leave for school at 7:00, and manage to get there at around 7:25, pending on traffic.  Once I get there, I'm usually late, because there's a giant ass section that's only stop and go.  My city needs to think about where to put more loving stop lights.
Class scheduling:
-Chemistry
-Graphic Design
-Consumer ed.
-Geometry
-C++
-Lunch/advisory
-P.E.
-English II

I have eight different classes (people who aren't in CBG have either seven or six, depending on whether you take a language or not (respecitvely, duh)).  We get four minutes between classes.
Our lunch is thirty minutes.
I wake up at 7:10, get on my bus at around 7:55, and arrive at school sometime around 8:20 (unless it's a Thursday, in which I get up at 6:25, get in the car at 7:10 and drive to Jazz band (which starts at 7:15 and ends at ~8:15).

Schedule:
Crew (basically twenty minutes to work on anything): 8:30 - 8:50
First period: 8:54 - 10:16 (odd is social studies (still can't find a difference between this and history, so I usually prefer to call it 'history') and even is ASE (you read for fifteen minutes and then do activities, depending on which teacher you have))
Second period: 10:20 - 11:38 (odd is math (Algebra 1 :D) and even is band)
Third period/lunch: 11:42 - 1:29.  Seventh grade, lunch from 11:42 - ~12:12; sixth grade, lunch from 12:16 - 12:46; eighth grade, lunch from 12:59 - 1:29. (odd is gym/health and even is English)
Fourth period: 1:33 - 2:50 (odd is science and even is German <3)

Our day ends at 2:50 (obviously) and you are free to go to your locker, pack up, and go to your bus.  They leave at around three and I get home (on a normal day) at 3:17/18 (unless it's Thursday, in which I stay after school for a club, which ends at 4:00 (I get home around 4:10))

My school starts at 7:30 and ends around 2:30; it also runs on the "A-B" Block Schedule. It basically goes like this:
(the periods go in order listed)
Day 1 - Periods 1 - 4
Day 2 - Periods 5 - 7, 1
Day 3 - Periods 2 - 5
Day 4 - Periods 6, 7, 1, 2
Day 5 - Periods 3 - 6
Day 6 - Periods 7, 1 - 3
Day 7 - Periods 4 - 7
Repeat

Each class is about eighty-two minutes long and the break between classes is about ten minutes. Lunch is about thirty minutes long and when you have it depends on what class you have third that day. Each class has a specified lunch labeled "A" or "B." "A" comes before third block and "B" obviously comes after.

Eighth graders through Juniors have five required classes (Math, English, Science, History, and Religion [that is basically just teaching the Catholic point of view on morality. Which isn't that bad; they never condemn a person, just the actions.]) and two elective periods (this can range from two to four classes, depending on whether the class takes up the whole year or just one semester). The seniors have three required classes (Math, English, and Religion), all of the other periods are elective.

Seniors also have special privileges, like going to lunch five minutes early, cutting the line in lunch if they're late, having a special shirt to wear on certain days, and having a "senior" shirt (which is just white in stead of green.)

Ah, I have ALOT to say about my school. Right now I am in the graduate class, so in about 2 weeks, I will be graduating and going to Argo High School. I loving hate WSS (Willow Springs School) and I will tell you a backstory. First thing, the State of Illinois stopped paying schools  in late 2009. Mostly we have to use budget supplies and stuff but we have SOME kickass things like a projected touchscreen. Yeah. And the ELMO, a projector that uses a CAMERA! YEAH COOL HUH? They were never used more than 10 times. Pretty sad for a school that is TRYING to keep up with technology? How about this: A Tech Lab that teaches kids technology that was used 10 years ago. There are some parts that require you to watch a video. You're guessing that you watch it on the computer? NO SILLY! You have to check out a VHS tape and watch it on a CRT TV. THIS IS loving UNBELIEVABLE. THAT WAS ADDED IN 2005. 6 MILLION DOLLARS TO A loving WASTE. Oh yes, there are NO programming stations. One more thing to bitch about: The gym had no A/C and they are adding it AFTER I LEAVE. SO WITH THE TECH LAB. BRAND NEW. forget, I am going AVGN now.

tl;dr: School sucks, they hate my class, I am glad to graduate.

I am in the SPECIAL (Algebra Group) but I just have different teachers.

1: Math
2:SCIENCE
3:Espanol :c
4:MUSIC :C

These 8 classes last the whole 24 hours.

6 fifty minute periods, school starts at 8:45 and finishes at 3:15 except on Fridays, it finishes 15minutes earlier.
But from next year lessons will become one hour and school will finish later, most likely at 4pm.
