The entire thing is a story, as far as I am concerned.
Slender Man: A supernatural humanoid that is very tall, faceless, and has long skinny arms.
Alex: Jay's college buddy, turns into Masky after getting into cahoots with Slendy. Started the project but got weirded up by Slendy.
Jay: Man who was Alex's college buddy, and Alex gives Jay the tapes before he disappears. About Entries #1-11 are filmed by Alex. I think. He continues the project for Alex, and now Masky (Alex) and Slendy are hunting him down.

What I have never understood about horror stories, is that why don't the people like Jay just get authorized for a loving shotgun. Carry that around and blow Slendy to bits. Then study his insides. :D
