Basically, most of California collapses and sinks under the water. This family drives away as the ground is literally falling right behind them, and makes it out safely. The main guy tells them to go to Yellowstone, so they go there. A crazy dude gives the man a map to China, and they avoid an exploding volcano. Then they get on a huge plane and drive out of LA just in time. They were supposed to go to Hawaii, but it's on fire, and they don't have enough fuel to get to the OMG MAGICAL SAVIOR ARKS. But... the earth shifts so they end up crash-landing right where they need to be. Then some locals that are sneaking on take pity on them and help them get on the MAGICAL SAVIOR ARKS, and they get in just as the OLOL TIDALWAVE hits the arks.

It's very believable.
