Why would anyone want to end the Space Program?

I'm going to Florida to see the last launch of Endeavour.

Why would anyone want to end the Space Program?
It is costing too much money, and we need to focus on preserving our planet and fixing the economy.

 And build the SPACE ELEVATOR!

Cape Canaveral is really cool, highly suggest anyone go visit it. (and experience Florida's Grade A swamp ass producing humidity)

It's not closing, the're shifting to new ideas. The space program is starting the training for the first human visit to mars.(not robots like rovers)The U.S. space shuttles are done until 2014 I think. Until then, I think U.S. astronauts are hitching rides with the Russian cosmonauts.
