Facebook. what was the point of joining?

I joined facebook a few months back thinking it was a good idea but when i look at it what was the loving point?
The people who i don't even like a school adding me. People who i don't even know messaging me. People at school posting messages of hate on my walls.
I ask this to my self, why did i join?

Right now all the people i have are private chatting me saying 'Plz! dn't go!' so i simply explain the reason

The only reason I have facebook is to keep in touch with my family that lives in other states. Or friends.
