Those are wedge bricks...

If I am correct, he isnt looking straight into it, hes looking up. It just gives the illusion of looking straight.

I've made something similair, fairly simple to make. You just use each wedge brick to make a rounded shape.
I'm pretty sure Ace added something like that into one of the builds he's working on. It makes for a nice "turbine" looking area if you add a propeller to the top.

Edit: He also undulo'd them.

Honestly though, the real way to do it is a lot less interesting than you might think, so if I told you it would suck all the magic out of it. Keep guessing though.
