Because Atheism is the cool thing to be these days. Latest fad in a long line of rebellious fads. If it has a rule structure or form of discipline for immoral behavior, it's cool to rebel against because that's what all kids do. "Because we obviously have a grip on what is real even though we've barely even lived a quarter of our lives, we know everything because we have the internet and news programs that tell us the truth. Why bother to personally do the research if someone says so?" Same faults go for religions as well.

I love how gullible and impressionable kids are. I had a good deal of kids believe I was the retired Spiderman because of a lump I have in my wrist (not lupis or cancer) that flexes when I do the spidey hand web shoot pose. Yes some of those kids were high schoolers. Smart kids, but they will believe anything they want to if you present them with enough convincing material.

I went through the rebellious phase, just like my parents did and their parents before them. I'm pretty darn sure my kids will go through it. Sooner or later people mature some, quit feeling the need to make their point on every single issue they feel they know anything about and just simply learn that you can still be great friends with someone for many many years and not give a care to what they believe in because you actually focus on things you have in common. I'm good friends with Bisjac and we are both on opposing sides of the debate but we never let that interfere with our friendship. We simply don't care because we enjoy gaming and legos more than we do fighting over who is right.

You are not born with any religious beliefs instilled in you; therefore you are born an atheist. All religious people are just rebelling against atheism because it's the popular thing to do in this country. This is exactly what you sound like.

Seriously, that whole post is handicapped. You dismiss a worldview as ramblings of rebellious youth and then ask people to get along. It's one thing to disagree, it's another to dismiss someone's disagreement as rebelliousness.

If they don't believe in theistic deities, they're an atheist. If they do, they're not. It's a very tiny minority who put up the charade of atheism for reasons other than they show. You sound eerily similar to those people who say homoloveuals are just trying to piss off their parents.

The lack of falsification makes god a weak argument. How can you believe in something you can't explain? You can't prove it's there, you can't prove it's not there, it's nothing more then an idea and should only be considered as such. It should not be used to promote atrocities against humanity, induce terrible culture practices, and to endorse structural violence. The magnitude at which it's been taken as truth is irrational and its proprietors have only used it as a tool to do far more harm then good.

On top of that, the stagnant conservative way of thinking it promotes is insufficient, even dangerous, in a rapidly changing world that demands self-improvement and huge re-considerations in how we do things. Those who shun human improvement are insecure, toxic people who like to blame others for their own ineptitude and lack of willingness to do some dirty work. It's the worst form of a parasite.

On one note I find interesting about the biblical depiction of God is how he is described basically as just a being in a higher dimension than ours. His ability to see everything, to exist independent of time, all this fancy stuff are characteristics extra-dimensional beings would have. (mainly the time thing is what gets me)
I just think its neat.
