RAM or vid card?

I need a new computer. If you wanna know how old my current one is, get this: no wireless :c

Anyways, after tons of saving up, I finally am nearly ready to buy. I need one that's around 1000$.

Any suggestions/ideas? I don't know much about what a good gaming computer needs (RAM? Graphics card? Something else?) nor do I know how to set them up, so I don't think I wanna do the whole assemble-your-own-computer thing.

Preferably, a laptop, but a desktop is nice too :3

If you want gaming, go for Windows XP for older games. Windows 7 for newer.

Most games are moving into Windows 7/Vista support only.

It's becoming the Windows 2000 of when XP was the top OS and isn't being preloaded anymore.

It's only preloaded on stuffty laptops now.

Go with a desktop brother. From the review, it seems to be a nice machine with offbrand parts.

You need hardware for it too.

I would rec comend putting together a computer. It might seem daunting at first but it it really isn't. The hardest part is picking the parts and assembling them is no problem. When I put mine together literally every piece and connector only had 1 spot for it to connect to.

ITT: Vault pretends he knows about computers.

I don't know about you, but I rely on my laptop's portability CONSTANTLY. It's not only nice to be able to take my laptop wherever in the house, but most of my relatives do not own a useable computer.

I recommend a laptop over a desktop, but it's really situational. Desktops are cheaper, but I'd much rather pay ~300 more dollars so I can use my computer whenever I want to.

I use 4g of RAM and I recommend you do so as well.

In my personal experiences with the family PC, an HP, the computer is extremely problematic and HP's customer service is awful. Every time we sent it in for maintenance they formatted the hard drive. if that happened to my personal computer I'd kill myself. I have so much junk on here.

I use a mac, and you can buy a macbook for 1000 bucks.

Are your parents willing to chip in some money, too?
