Author Topic: RAM or vid card?  (Read 5817 times)

I use a mac, and you can buy a macbook for 1000 bucks.

With pitiful specs, I'm sure.

gee, so pitiful.
Apple will upgrade your ram to 4gb from 2gb for 200 bucks, but you can just buy some new ram from a 3rd party and install it yourself, which is easy and much cheaper.

edit: I have a Macbook Pro 13" $1,200 model, except when I got it a year and a half ago it was called a Macbook Alluminum unibody, had a shorter battery life, and costed more.

One thousand dollars for a 2.4GH/z Core 2 Duo, an nVidia GeForce GT320M, and 2GB of RAM.

LOL
Sure, I'd gladly be willing to pay $1000 to play Crysis Warhead on low @ 20fps, if I could even find a way to play it.

Just for the record, my laptop that I bought a year and a half ago has better overall specs (slightly slower CPU @ 2.13GH/z), and it was only $800.
Double the GPU scores of the one in the $1000 model Macbook.

you could get an evenly good one for around 6-800 dollars

I'm not really interested in macs, but thanks.

Once again, I'm completely ignoring portability - what's the best gaming computer I can buy for 1000ish?

right, forgot about the gaming part. Then you're better off not using MacOS at all.

I suggest building a desktop, if you don't care for portability there is no reason to buy a laptop.

I don't move around with my laptop much. But I still have laptop because it doesn't need much room.

you are one honorable mac user

Well, it sounds like I really should build my computer :/

Is it easy? If so, what parts do I need? I know nothing about the internals of a computer :/

Motherboard, video card, RAM, processor, power supply, sound card. Possibly fans for some of those things.

Tom

I don't think you should try building one when you don't know anything at all.

That was my take on it. I mean, I guess I could get assistance (internet/dad), but I still think it's a little risky. Plus, if I forget up, that's a lot of wasted money :<

In that case, I guess I should go for a desktop. What are the most important qualities for a gaming computer?

Processor, RAM, video card.

Mmk. So what's a good RAM/processor/vid card?

I really want to be able to run CrCIA and Portal2 and stuff :D

Haven't kept up with PC news. But DDR 3 RAM would be best.
