I think the grossness is a combination of leg hair color, and skin color.

Hairy legs are fine on a guy.

It's your body, do whatever the forget you want with it. Who cares what someone else thinks? Personally, I will only shave my pubes, so when I jack it the lotion and fap doesn't get in the hair.
