Chat off but type forwardslash (/) commands?

Is there any way to have no chat messages appear, but still be able to type the / commands? (forwardslash commands)

If the Chat Line Time or Max Chat Lines (Options -> Advanced -> GUI Options) is set to 0, you should still be able to enter things into the chat but they will not appear.
