How to remove the ground on a map?

how do you remove the ground on a map like slate, can any please tell me? i really need to know because I'm planning of making a floating island with no ground!

You make a map with no .ter file. (.ter files are terrain files.)

But you also need a program to make the island. It's called Torque constructor. It's free, you just need a account to download it.
