If I COULD buy a gun I would, if I COULD go to a range I would but, everyone doesn't have that type of luxury. I don't use airsoft as a replacement for not being able to shoot real guns though, it's just for fun, it's my hobby, all hobbies cost a considerable amount of money.

I also wouldn't really consider close to a thousand dollars for pretty much all my stuff an obscure about of money considering, alot of real guns cost around that much.
And? .22 is the stuff, I've heard this from dozens of gun owners and have seen it's power, which isn't very much. .22 isn't really good in any sort of situation from my understanding, sure it's cheap to shoot and you don't need ear protection but, that doesn't mean its good.

edit: Your experience with it doesn't go past watching some guy fire it and you not being impressed because it isn't the loudest most recoil producing cartridge there is.

Alright. I personally don't think it's that great but, we're all entitled to our own opinion, just because I haven't fired it doesn't mean I can't decide weather or not it's good.

Even then, if you have it doesn't mean anything. I've shot a .22 Ruger or something like that at a shooting range and all I thought was "man this is a dinky little peashooter." Then again I don't know much about firearms other than "bullets come out the thin end, point away from self and others."

Well the projectile is a lead christmas tree/mushroom shaped thing. Most pellet guns fire at 750+ feet per second. So if you were to get it where you skin is exposed it will most likely pentrate through the skin and slighting into the muscle. You will most like bruise/bleed. So yes it hurts.

+ 1000+ fps rifle = broken skin, bleeding wound.

edit: chasey's right, .22 is a pusillanimous individual caliber for anything but shooting squirrels or birds, anything small.

You would have to be crazy if you were going to hunt a buck or a boar with a 22. I would use a slug or something with more stopping power.
