Author Topic: Why do people down people who use Game Maker?  (Read 1711 times)

LOL kid you used gamemaker. Do you feel you have accomplished something. Anyone can do this. But sorry I have a life outside of spending months to make a game so I choose not to make it. I would like to see you script and code a game from scratch. Nothing whatsoever. No edits. No public files from websites. Models from you. Etc.

So now you're trying to down me just becuase I use Game Maker. I like Game Maker. You won't change anything about that.

Yes, I DO feel as if I have accomplished something. I know anyone can do this, so what. "No edits, no public files form websites..." I made every single texture from scratch in GIMP.

I'm not interested in making 3D games at the moment, get over it.

<confus>
Anyways, I'd like to know why Game Maker is so bad. I find it good becuase I do not know C++, Java, C#, etc.; I would like to some of it in the future. I thought this may help a little bit; I wanted to make my own games too.

Because people don't think Gameboys are cool anymore.

It's because some people think making a game from scratch is more cooler than using a program that assists you.

Because easy-to-use automatically means crappy.

what.

I don't know, but I'm always just gonna stick with pure C++ with SDL and Winsock.

because using flash makes people feel self-important

Not necessarily. Look at Hello Engine 4. It's made with Game Maker, and it's an excellent Mario clone/Mario game maker. Also, could you define "crappy"? Not all games have to be high-def graphics and first person shooters you know.

Uh... what?

The real reason is you take game maker and then you just throw some tiles down and make a character that can run around and attack and release it, nothing unique in it at all.

Mine's not like that.

It's like an endless breakout game. I didn't see any game like that on YoYo Games, so I thought I'd make it.

you didn't sense my sarcsm

I agree with the Meeses guy. What self-importance do you get from an output that can easily be cloned by another person? Here's self-important worthy: making your OWN models and script to do what YOU want whenever and HOWEVER. :3

It takes away from the experience of actually creating a game, and not just making sprites.

Something called sprites. Maybe once I get more advanced, you may see a 3D version of the game. You probably won't, but you may.

I did script what I wanted whenever and however.

That wasn't sarcasm was it? ._.

I remember using Game Maker in the old days. It was quite fun, and making something silly would take you  a few minutes.
Now I understand how bloated the game making system is, and I would never get things done in lower level if I kept using it. So I gave up on it to "attempt" to step forward to become less reliable on such a piece.
My reaction to Game Maker is not "That's Game Maker, so this game sucks!", but rather "This is made in Game Maker, I see...".
