Author Topic: I should be able to host servers for people who can't host themselves....  (Read 1331 times)

I have just bought a Virtual Private Server for a couple of reasons, among them is to host a dedicated Blockland server for myself that should have very little lag and pretty much 100% uptime. Though after looking at the memory usage and the CPU take it seems that I should have no problem hosting multiple servers on my account. After being told that you can host more than one server per account, I figured I could pretty much give people filtered eval access and super admin on their own installation of Blockland.

So, if all goes well by the end of the day my VPS will be up and running and I'll be able to give people their own servers where I'll upload any add-ons they wish and give them super admin and the ability to use console commands.

If you do want a server just post here and/or PM me with why you want a server and your BL_ID and I'll see if I can set one up for you when my VPS is activated. Keep in mind I will probably start out only running one or two at a time, I'll see what I can do.

Hi i would like to have a server.

Name: Commander Sushi
Blid: 12757
addons: duplicator fillcan
and some weapons and vechiles
reason: to build and so people can join

btw is it a dedi?
In other words can it stay on for a long
time? (1-2 days?)

Your key has to be passed into the server.

What do you mean?
I don't need anyone's keys for this, I just need their BL_ID to give them eval access and super admin.
Also, I got my VPS, but I need some help finding out how to access the control panel......

Badspot deactivates keys if they are used on different IPs.

But I believe the Block Party server runs on a dedicated in Texas.

But I used my key on two different computers at home. Not at the same time though.

You really think he'd deactivate someone's key just because they used it on more than one IP?
What if you go to a friends house and play, or you have a dynamic IP?

I suppose I could just buy another BL_ID solely for hosting.

No, I actually know about this. You would have to get permission on the forums.

I go to my grandparents with my netbook or play BL on their desktop but that is the only other place I'll play it.

Badspot will not deactivate your key if it's used on a few different IP's on occasion, stop being so tinfoil. But if it jumps between a few different locations and frequent name changes then it can become obvious it's being shared.

Yes, he can tell if the key's IP is being used a few towns over on occasion or constantly jumping back and forth between California and England.

I'll just get another BL ID, shouldn't be a problem then, right?

Don't be handicapped, dude.  Do you think I manage 20,000+ keys manually?  Switching IP addresses is not a problem and neither is hosting a bunch of dedicated servers on a different IP while you play.  The only time I've de-activated keys is when they are used by a huge number of different IPs in a short period of time (which is evidence that the key has been leaked onto the internet) or if it rapidly alternates between two distant locations.

DrenDran can easily host many dedicated servers for other people using his key.  They will all be named "DrenDran's <whatever>".  This is fine.
