44)The gunblade.It's a gun! It's a blade! What a marvelous concept. Hey, they make bayonets for rifles, why not handguns? Makes perfect sense right? Well this picture is the closest thing to a practical gunblade I could find. Notice that because the blade runs half the length of the barrel there can be no front sight because that would obstruct an otherwise clean cut. So aiming would involve a lot of guesswork, which would be problematic. Also assuming you could make a really deep stab you would get gore in the barrel obstructing it, which could cause the gun to backfire. That's not the only reason that such a weapon would be unsafe to use. Consider this, a rifle's bayonet is typically pretty far from the shooter's hands AND there are a number of things preventing his hand from sliding out to the sharp edge. With this, you just have to be really careful about where you place your hands if you intend to fire it. Get some magnum flinch? Lose some fingers. Besides, a rifle bayonet is seldom actually used on a rifle. It's more useful as a tool, a screwdriver, tent peg, etc. Bayonets are really just holdovers from the days when everyone had a bolt-action and if an enemy got really close to you there was no way for you to work the bolt fast enough, it was a last resort. You can't really remove the blade from this gun, so it's just dead weight. Besides, what do you even need a blade for? The gun is fine by itself. The added weight also causes major problems with the gun's already appalling accuracy (thanks to it's sights or rather the lack thereof). All the weight up front makes it a pain to hold on target, so the already random shot grouping would be made even worse.This is just a classic example of why every time someone combines two good things they create something that is worse. The blade would probably be far better by itself too.
