making a room dark

Darkness is the absence of light. Just turn off all the lights and put thick objects over the windows (Blinds) and stuff towels under the door if light is coming from there. Remember to turn off all electronics as well.

There's a light pack from RTB that contains negative lights, which make the area around the brick with the chosen "light" darker.

Instead of downlading that huge map, you could just download the Dark Light. In spite of the oximoronic name, it gets the job done.
