I guess I'll try all of them.

Currently I'm using wings 3D.

I also REALLY want to try blender.

Try blender and wings 3d before trying milkshape. If you can stay away from getting hooked on milkshape then it will save you $35 or so.

the thing I hate about Blender is the user interface.

Bla bla bla bla bla.

Why not just say what they all mean...

I like Wings 3D a lot.

I'll try Blender.

You might also want to try the blender 2.5 alpha. It has a new interface that I think is easier to use.

I heard they teach Blender in college courses, so I doubt many kids can figure it out.

Teaching things in college courses is not a big deal. What I'm doing in this introductory programming course is what I did at the end of middle school.

There is always Blender 3D: Noob to Pro.
If you have the patience to read the whole thing.

As long as I learn  how to model, boy, I'll read a book for it.

I did kinda notice blender having the better quality models.

It took me a little time to get good with blender, but once I forced myself to read that book, I started catching on.
