How about RTB let's Kalphiter mirror all of the files. It would be a win-win for everyone. Kalphiter get's to make his mod. People could choose the service they want to us ethe download the files. Less traffic would have to go though the RTB server. And if something bad happened to either BC or the RTB server, the other one would have a very recent backup.

This.

Like Ephialtes would really do that.

That's a very good idea, except for it being an idealistic view. Since BC was conceived for the purpose of cheesing off Ephialtes, I doubt he'd be willing to aid it.

Darn.

I was just throwing the idea out their. It probably won't happen.

Having fun with autocorrect?
file you :)
Hmm.. I think you have a point there. You are correct at least in the fact that the idea was conceived primarily to get at Ephialtes. As for the waste of time, that's Kalphiter's time, not ours. We are in no position to tell him what he should do with his spare time.

I also understand how this could potentially put a strain on the community. People generally don't like change. However, now that it's started I don't think it's likely that it'll stop, short of Kalphiter getting hit by an asteroid.
Of course reproducing existing software seems to be a waste to me but I guess it's up to Kalphiter to determine that himself.

As for not being able to sto it, software can be abandoned at any stage of development. BC looks like it is very early in development and could easily be turned around into a stand alone chat and gallery client that would compliment RTB very well. Somehow I don't think Kalphiter just wants to be at the top of the RTB downloads list.

Well again we're back to having two competing systems. There won't be any reason to use BC, it's just leeching off RTB and providing services that could easily run on top of RTB instead of in place of RTB.

However, the idea of backups did occur to me a few days ago. RTB seems unbreakable now but BJ Way once had a hosting service and single handedly lost every Blockland mod on his site by not paying his bills.

RTB is more responsible and more experienced and has backups as we've seen recently. Having a single point of failure is still dangerous though, maybe some kind of mirroring service could be agreed on.

I think what we all need to understand is that the main reason to make add-ons is to make Blockland better. We can have competition - but you shouldn't be competing for personal affairs - you should be competing to make the mod that does the most for Blockland. Sure, BC connect could end up being a better mod, and Kalphiter will get the attention he wants and all that stuff - but if it's just splitting the community like Wedge predicted it could, both sides are at fault. BC as well as RTB should be trying to accommodate for this competition. Even if Ephi can Kalph might hate each other, they still need to both work for a way for there mods to be 100% compatible with each other - or one of them could just do what's best for the community and not make one at all.

Tom

Opps - I accidentally made it all bold D:

What Wedge is saying is that sure Kalphiter could add all this stuff to his RTB replica, but wouldn't it be easier just to suggest the new options to Ephialtes?

Basically:

The way I see it is that there is no room for a second RTB. Kalphiter is in a position where he could produce a complimentary service to RTB (something I'd be excited about) but BC isn't going in that direction. RTB has been planning on a cloud service for a while (this is where the name BC came from) and BC could be that service if he proved that the code was good and his server could handle all of RTBs users. He would have the benefit of not having to compete for users. There are tons of services RTB has on the drawing board but were postponed into the indefinite future, and he could fill that niche. Things like transferring saves, a gallery system, clan management, avatar and quick brick slot synceonization to the Internet, storing your saves in the cloud so you can load them on any computer, things we'd like to have now but improving the download and mod interface first. That's what RTBs cloud would be.

I can't see Ephialtes and Kalphiter working together, and BC and RTB would probably never merge. But if Kalphiter provides a set of original features and does it well, it would be silly to ban it from RTB. Ephialtes  said himself he'd approve of such an add-on. Of course he would, he'd only benefit from it. Nonetheless, as it stands, he's basically already using RTB in one form or another.

On another note, I've typed out Kalphiter and Ephialtes so many times they are on my autocorrect list.:/

I concur that it would make much more sense if Kalphiter made BC into a supplement for RTB instead of a replacement. However, as has been previously sated, BC exists primarily to rebel AGAINST RTB and thus their cooperation is extremely unlikely.

As for the matter of it stopping, I meant that I feel Kalphiter is too stubborn to turn this around even if he can.

Tom

BC will only end up working if he gets permission to use the Auth Server.
